A family history needs the help of several people to
look through records of births, deaths and marriages. Two of my
daughters, Merrill and Glenis, became very interested in searching
through libraries for information about pre-Industrial English society.
They looked at Mormon genealogical records in their search for Census
material which might be of relevance.
Without an accurate knowledge of the location of the
land at Boort, nothing would have been achieved. The Titles office and
the Map Section of the Public Records Office of Victoria were most
helpful in the search among old Land Department records on microfiche,
and in providing copies of the Land Titles and the County map of Boort,
and in telling us how to obtain the relevant files on George Briant
Snr. and James Briant.
A distant cousin, Elinor, great grand-daughter of
Emma and George provided some of the information about the Pateman side
of the family.
Memories of my grandmother, Louisa, filled in gaps
about people and attitudes to society.
