Will of John Martin of Spratton, August 10th 1723

In the name of God Amen. I John Martin of Spratton, Taylor, in the county of Northton being of good memory and praise be to God for it, I do therefore and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say, First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker hoping that through the monitoring death and passion of Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer I pardon and forgiveness of all sins and as for my body to be buryed in Christian burial at the d of my executors    Item I give unto my wife Joan (?) Martin all that I am in possession of both my house and lands during    said    her death. I give unto my sonn William Martyn my half quartern lands to him and to his heirs. I give to my sonne John Martin both my houses but my house that I now live in he shall pay out of it thirty four pounds thats 12 months round to my sonne Thomas Martin and eight pounds to my sonne Robert Martin ten pounds to my sonne Peter Martin and four pounds to my daughter Hannah onnldson. this being my last will and testament I make my wife and my sonne John executors together in witness

Glenis's material prepared for the Martin reunion she organised has been quoted directly here. They have traced the family back to the 16th century, by a lot of detective work on old wills.
