Charles Chilcott's Brother William

Bones in the Belfry home page

Now that we believe that the undocumented passenger on the Marquis of Anglsea was William Roseveare, Charles brother needs further investigation. The following is what I can find out:

1809, 20 August – Baptised in Tintagel (source Bishop's Transcript)
1827 He was a quarryman in Tintagel, and was eligible for militia service.
1831, 27 June - Arrival Hobart on the Eagle (Trove) which left Swan River 23 May.

1836 2 February
– William departs Launceston for London on the ship Mary
1837 ?
- William is conjectured to have married a widow, Ann Worden neé Pope perhaps in north Cornwall.
1838 23 March
- William and his new wife Ann arrived in Hobart via Sydney, Described as Launceston Settler, with Mrs Chilcott senior and Anne. Ages (27, 37, 55, 6). I have Langford Chilcott's wife Ann dying in 1823. So who is Mrs Chilcott senior? The newre wife Ann was a widow, with a child Ann aged 6.
1849 15 Apr - William was widowed when Ann died in Longford.
1849 17 Sep - William, married Janet McDonald aged 18 years in Evandale Church, The witnesses included Charles Chilcott Snr.
1850 to 1877 - William and Janet had sixteen children (the last when Janet was aged 46 years)
1884 14 Sep - William died in Longford

Where does all this leave us? I think we have to take the simple view that there was only one unlisted passenger on the Marquis of Anglsea, and that was William Roseveare. And William came from England in 1831. For what it is worth Ancestry ThruLines confirms common DNA with two of William's children by his second marriage. So he is definitely descended from Langford and Ann Chilcott in Tintagel.
