MY FAVOURITE ARTISTS: Frida Kahlo, Ben Sullivan, Cusco School, Pre-Raphaelites, Nadia Toukhsati, Caravaggio, Fra Angelico, Charles Blackman, Joy Hester, Donny Woollagoodja, Raewyn Turner, Beci Orpin, Dali, Magritte. MY LOVES: I love my children, my God, my art, the sea, playing the piano, singing, India. MY HISTORY: I lived on a houseboat in Amsterdam in the 70's, performed alongside Ian Dury & the Blockheads, Skyhooks, Split Enz... can't really remember how many others (it was the 70's). I've lived in Italy in a mountain village of 60 people, performed on a stage built against the Berlin Wall to a crowd of over 200,000 people, and lived in New York just over the Brooklyn Bridge. I was a guest at Grace Jones's baby shower at Studio 54, and shared a house with a 97-year-old Cherokee Indian. Oh and I just remembered Sid Vicious once got arrested on our roof in London. And on the subject of arresting behaviour, our crazy Amsterdam landlord stabbed to death the tenant who moved into our houseboat after we'd moved out. We only heard about it after we returned from New York a year later. You certainly meet some interesting people in Amsterdam. One more thing - when I was seventeen, Greg Roberts, author of Shantaram, pierced my ears in the Melbourne Uni cafeteria. (I spent a few semesters personally researching the effects of THC and eventually majored in caf-sitting). MY PASSION: My amazing daughters!!! Apart from them, I do have other passions though...I have founded a children's home, a mobile medical unit, and set up some families in their own businesses in various parts of India, and have now commenced financing the sinking of a freshwater well in a remote region which currently does not have any access to clean drinkable water. MY RELIGION: I believe in and really love God. I believe that if we all lived according to Christ's teachings, ie downsizing, living simply, recognizing the difference between what we want and what we need, focussing on who we are inside rather than what kind of image we are projecting, and truly cared about those around us, the world would be a far better place, and we would all be a lot less stressed! MY POLITICS (INTERNATIONAL): I am appalled that Australians are being conned into thinking that America is somehow justified in killing thousands of defenceless people, not only in Iraq, but in their very own prisons. And I am definitely not thrilled by the looming spectre of the Americanisation of Australia. MY POLITICS (LOCAL): I believe that all people, regardless of race, education, status or creed, should be welcomed onto Australian soil with open arms. After all, most of those white Australians who are opposed to that ideal are themselves descendants of oppressed (convict) "boat people", and, like myself, can only claim their Australian heritage for maybe seven generations, at most. AND to all my Indigenous brothers and sisters - I'm sorry. And I'm glad that finally Kevin Rudd had the guts to say it! “
