Research Notes
LDS has no help on Thomas and Elizabeth. It got cryptic with the
last two children, (sus and Jn), but FHO gave Susan and John.
FHO also had the marriage
FHO has two good candidates for Thomas Dabb's christening
26 Dec 1717 Cornelly, father William Dabb
(age 27 in
1744)
21 Oct 1725 Probus, father Melchisideck
Dabb (age 19 in 1744)
Both Cornelly and Probus are within two miles of Creed where Thomas
was married. We have to favour Cornelly because their
firstborn son was called William.
Elizabeth was 23 when she married, again pointing to Cornelly.
Say an 80% chance.
A search for John Merrifield only yeilds the information that
Elizabeth Merryfield had a brother John christened in Creed in 1732
Muriel Carlson provided a
couple of Family Group sheets which shed light on the above
research notes
(a) Thomas Dabb b 21 Oct
1725 Probus, died 1748, father Melchisideck Dabb , wife Mary,
children Ann (b Ladock) and Mary (b Probus abt 1742),
Death date rules him out for Jane's father. Also he
seems to be marrying very young.
(b) Thomas Dabb 17 Apr
1712 Probus, Cornwall, m Mary Harris 18 May 1730, six
children in Probus 1742-50
Overlap of families rules him out.. Again he seems to
be marrying very young.
All this makes our William
guess a little better, Upgrade William to 90%
In a later
email Muriel added "Now I do
have a William Dabb born on 12 April 1686 who was married
to a Mary Ham. Their birth place was Probus, Cornwall, England.
All the Parishes are so close to each other, that moving from
one place to another would not be a rare happening."
That is quite possibly our William
