Comments

We have a picture taken in the Ashwell church of a notice paying tribute to the bellmakers of it's six bells. Included are
1. 1792 J Briant  (Hertford)    6.5 cwt
3. 1817  J Briant                     9.5 cwt
4. 1787  J Briant                     11  cwt
6. 1789  John Briant                19  cwt
These would probably all be John, and we have no-one in the tree who fits the bill at this stage

James lived at Radwell, 4 miles from Ashwell, worked at Flinton Mills Ashwell . His will can be found at

Research Notes

LDS has the children and the marriage, and James' christening. Can't find a christening for Elizabeth Rouse, but it does look a good chance that she was George and Elizabeth Rouse's daughter.
They had a family at just the right time in Ashwell. Put it an 80% chance. As James did not mention Elizabeth in his will, it is probable she predeceased him,  perhaps 1817 when he last revised his will.Acknowledgements

Thanks to Gwen and Harry Smalley, Glenis Crocker, Kel Ellis, Elinor Moore, Valerie Woodgate and Patricia Hone for their contributions to this part of our tree
